"What A Way To Go" - A Toast to Ed

Updated: May 6, 2021

January 29, 2021:

Dear friends and family. I quickly realized yesterday morning that I was going to have to pace myself with the literal hundreds and hundreds of texts, messages, and Facebook tribute posts for our dear amazing Ed. It’s all so overwhelming, so painful, and so beautiful. And I still feel like I’ve been punched in the gut with the reality of our loss. I can’t respond to everyone but I will eventually read all the messages and we will hold the love so tight. Please know from the bottom of my heart that I feel not only my pain, but the pain for everyone that knew Ed, and I wish we could all squeeze each other in person, in true Ed fashion, he was a big time hugger. // One of Ed’s requests for when it came time to celebrate his life, was to have us all toast to a song from one of his favorite bands, Gaelic Storm. We’ve seen Gaelic Storm many times with our friends Peter and Shari, whether it be at the Tractor Tavern or the Neptune. We’ve been fortunate to be able to connect with the band personally during the past eight months which brought a lot of joy to Ed and myself. With that said, here are the lyrics to one of their songs, it’s so perfect. So grab a drink of any kind (Ed’s faves were Moscow Mule, Tom Collins, Jack & Coke, or a Manhattan) and cheers to life, love and laughter in honor of my sweetie. //

What A Way To Go by Gaelic Storm It was Friday at five We were all at the bar Staring at the pints set before us With the next clear one there By the empty chair For our friend's final chorus And we laughed And we roared Stories and whiskey got bored And we swore Oh at the end That we'd never see the like of him again Well he was sound as a pound The salt of the earth He'd a laugh that could end any fight But a fire that burned so strong Could only burn so long So we'll drink for him tonight And we'll laugh And we'll roar Telling tales we've told a thousand times before And we'll know Oh at the end That we'll never see the like of him again What a way to go, way to go Take your curtain call Wave goodbye to one and all Now that's the way to go Well if the Earth stops turning and Sun faded to blue We can still say it'll be okay Since we had a chance to walk a mile with you He was open with his heart And fair with his hand He had nothing to regret or to forgive He stood tall, he walked the line He fought the fight and drank the wine Everybody dies, but how many really live? He'd make us laugh And make us roar Some way we know he's waiting at the door And we'll know Oh at the end We just waiting until we all see him again And we're just waiting until we all see him again What a way to go Way to go Take your curtain call Wave goodbye to one and all Now that's the way to go What a way to go Way to go Take your curtain call Wave goodbye to one and all Now that's the way to go What a way to go Way to go Take your curtain call Wave goodbye to one and all Now that's the way to go

// Cheers to you honey. You were loved beyond measure.

Thank you to everyone who toasted to Ed, whether it was on your own, in a small group, or even our awesome neighbors who gathered on our front lawn with the song playing and candles lit... I appreciated knowing you were all enjoying a drink in honor of Ed and seeing some photos was so nice too. He's smiling down. XO
